The Pershing 8X: Where 48 Knots Meets Uncompromised Luxury

The market for high-performance yachts is notoriously restrictive when searching for a series model that pairs genuinely comfortable, liveable accommodation with blisteringly fast top speeds. For buyers requiring a vessel capable of exceeding 45 knots while still providing proper sleeping quarters—including a full-beam owner’s suite and dedicated guest staterooms—the options are few. The Pershing 8X, introduced at the 2019 Boot Düsseldorf, stands out as one of the elite yachts that achieves this demanding duality without compromise.

This vessel is a true engineering marvel, a collaborative effort between esteemed designer Fulvio De Simoni, the Ferretti Group’s Product Strategy Committee (led by Piero Ferrari), and the Group’s Engineering Department. Its performance is validated by BOATPro data, which places the Pershing 8X firmly within the top 5 percent of all yachts globally by speed.

The project began with an ambitious brief: to fundamentally improve upon its successful predecessor, the Pershing 82. The engineers were tasked with delivering significantly more interior volume and adding 14 inches of beam to enhance liveability, all while maintaining the hallmark performance and thrill of the Pershing brand. These objectives were, on paper, mutually exclusive; increased beam and volume typically translate to greater surface area, more drag, and substantially more weight—all fatal to the top speed of a surface-drive yacht.

The solution lay in a strategic shift to advanced materials, particularly carbon fiber. The entire superstructure of the Pershing 8X is constructed from this material, utilizing vacuum-infused epoxy resin instead of the traditional vinylester process. This wasn’t merely a finishing touch; it resulted in a hull that is structurally stiffer, dramatically lighter, and allows for a larger overall envelope than a conventional GRP build. The engineering team’s success is defined by the scales: despite being wider and longer than the 82, the 8X is only approximately 700 kilograms to 1 metric tonne heavier, an astonishing feat that safeguards its speed potential. This is complemented by the 20-degree constant-deadrise deep-V hull form, which uses wide chine flats running aft to generate additional lift at speed, ensuring excellent straight-line performance and the expected offshore seakeeping composure.

Propelling the 8X to its impressive 48-knot top speed are twin MTU 16V 2000 diesel engines linked to TopSystem surface drives. Unlike fully submerged conventional shaft drives, surface drives break the water’s surface, dramatically cutting drag. Crucially, this raw performance is highly accessible, thanks to the EasySet integrated propulsion control system. This unified interface incorporates joystick maneuvering (active up to 42 knots), automatic trim for the drive legs and flaps, and a dynamic positioning system for holding the yacht in place at anchor, making the 8X genuinely manageable for owners who prefer to pilot their own vessel.

While faster yachts in this class often sacrifice interior space for pure speed, the Pershing 8X for sale are thoughtfully designed for life at sea. The lower deck features four ensuite staterooms, including a voluminous full-beam owner’s suite complete with its own lounge and large hull windows, a VIP suite forward, and two twin staterooms, alongside berths for up to four crew. Further enhancing the living space is a main salon design featuring a one-piece windscreen and a drop-down glass wall that seamlessly merges the cockpit and interior at the touch of a button. The signature carbon wing staircase also intelligently frees up cockpit space below.

With over 25 hulls delivered and currently under construction since 2019, the Pershing 8X continues to be a highly sought-after model. FGI Yacht Group is ready to guide prospective buyers through the pre-owned market and purchasing process. Contact us to discuss available listings.
